Topic: Favorite guitars to play

O'K Desiree' ;  what are your favorite guitars and why ?  When you go to guitar center to shop, what do you look for in terms of playablity and tone ?
We already know you like the pretty blue ones hangin' on the wall....but what is it that makes you want to take it home ?

My favorite guitars are my Schecters and my Gibson Les Paul. The Schecters are my favorite because number one, they give me the extended frets that I need and love to use, number two, the weight of it is great for me, and number three, the sustain on it and the playability of it was right for me, and the size of the neck was big enough for my hand. The Gibson Les Paul that I have is my top favorite because it has great sustain, a great tone, and it's is unusual in the sense that it's lighter than any other Les Paul I've ever played, it's perfect. Before, I would not play a Les Paul only because it was just too heavy for me and it hurts my shoulder to have one on me for a certain amount of time. When I go to Guitar Center to shop, I look for a guitar that has a great tone to it, like a nice warm tone, and has a great amount of sustain, and in terms of the playability, I find something that has a great action to it. Something that has low action on it is good for me personally. If I feel really comfortable with the guitar and play it for the longest time out of any other guitar that I look at when I'm searching, then I would make the purchase, not to mention, the fact that it looks nice lol, but that's not even the most important part, the important part is being comfortable with it and just knowing that you aren't making the purchase just because it's a guitar that you just WANT to have but also something you know you'll play all the time and it won't being sitting in the corner collecting dust.

Have you ever played a scalloped necked guitar? One of my students did it to his Ibanez and then had a luthier finish it off. It was the fastest guitar I've ever played as far as running scales and playing lead work, but I thought it was useless as far as playing chords. I wouldn't mind having one sitting around for the specific purpose of being fast, but as my everyday player I don't think I could deal with it.

As far as Les Pauls go, they're unGodly heavy if you have to lug one around all night. They're a great studio guitar...nothing matches the warmth and sustain they have, but on stage they are a pain in the butt and back. I have a back up Epiphone LP for those rare times I venture on stage anymore. It's much lighter and the sound is similar to my Gibson (Not that anyone notices but me). I recently sold a custom shop Explorer and I'm really regretting that. I hated the shape of the guitar, but the sound, action, and playability was incredible. That was the smoothest and best sounding guitar I've ever played.

I have a Schecter, but it's a bottom of the line Schecter...a Damian with a Floyd Rose and I'm not exactly fond of it other then the Floyd Rose. It plays ok and I guess it sounds alright, but unless I really feel like abusing one of my guitars I never touch it.
